Getorganized

Getting married is such an exciting and fun time in your life. The planning starts almost immediately after announcing your engagement and can begin a stressful time. If you set your mind to being organized right from the start, it will make planning your wedding much easier than you think. Below are some tips to help you get started.

1. Buy a zip-up binder-These types of binders can be found at any office supply store. The zipper kind is the best because it will hold all of your extra papers and nothing can fall out of them. This is the most important tool you will buy to begin your planning.

2. Buy folder dividers with colored tabs, pockets, that are three hole punched.- These dividers can also be found at your local office supply store. You want to purchase the colored ones to make it easy for you to find different categories as you look for them. The white ones with the pockets are the best because you can use the pockets to store additional paperwork. The ones that are three hole punched are important because you can easily insert them into your binder. These come with white tab paper that is inserted into the colored tabs. You can then write on the tab paper to make your different categories.

3. Take your dividers and label them.- Once you have the dividers you can begin labeling them for your different categories. An example of the different categories may look something like this:

** CHURCH
** RECEPTION HALL
** MUSIC
** FLORIST
** OFFICIANT
** MAKE-UP/BEAUTY
** DRESS/ALTERATIONS/SEAMSTRESS
** PHOTOGRAPHER
** VIDEOGRAPHER
** HONEYMOON/TRAVEL AGENT
** REGISTRIES
** READINGS
** DJ
** CAKE IDEAS/BAKERY
** MISC. IDEAS ETC.
** BUDGET

Now that you have organized your categories, you can write on the tab papers and then put them into the colored slots of the folder dividers.

4. The next thing to do is insert the folder tabs into your binder. You can arrange the categories any way you choose to since they are color coded and are easy to access from here.

5. Buy a three hole puncher.- This item can be purchased from an office supply store or a craft store at a reasonable price. The reason that this is important, is that any paperwork you get, like your contract from your photographer, or receipts from your florist, or any other paperwork, you can punch holes in it and file it behind the proper category in your binder.

Every time you get any paperwork regarding your wedding, you file it in the appropriate category. This new binder that you have created and organized will become your new best friend that you can take everywhere with you. When you meet with your florist and you have printed out pictures of your ideas, you just flip to that section in your binder and everything is at your fingertips. Ideas, emails, and other important paperwork are easy to find and are easily available for you to refer back to.

As your wedding gets closer, this binder will become heavier, but you will be able to know what balances are outstanding and be able to scan your budget quickly. This binder will end up being something that you cherish and is a great way to help friends plan their weddings down the road. Being an organized bride is one of the best things you can do for yourself at this important time in your life.

Organising Your Desk

Many of us spend so much time focusing on finding the best ergonomic task chair, but never seem to stop to consider our computer office desks - which are half the equation. Before you buy your next computer desk, read on for what to look for in a quality desk and suggestions on some of the better ergonomic desk solutions available today.

Cable Storage

If you own a computer, you know that all the wires and cables running from your peripherals to the actual computer can be a major eyesore, disorganized mess, and walking hazard. Good computer office desks provide a solution for this - a few holes in the back of the desk that are designed for weaving cables through, to direct them back and up through the desk rather than scattered across your work surface. So, avoid a tangle of wires and look for a desk with pre-designed cabling solutions.

Tuck it Away

Rather than having your desktop tower, CDs, printers and other peripheral devices all out in the open and cluttering your workspace, seek a computer desk that has the storage capacity to tuck it all away. While an open-concept desk may seem like a good idea, you'll soon find your work surface overrun with wiring, papers, files and print cartridges. To keep a clean desk, look for a desk with specific computer and file storage drawers or cabinets.

Posture Perfect

The most important factor when purchasing a new computer desk is to make sure that it properly fits for your planned usage. To be ergonomically correct, you should be able to sit at the desk with your feet flat on the floor and reach the work surface area comfortable. If you like to occasionally cross your legs (which you shouldn't do), make sure you have room to do so. Plan ahead and bring your ideal desk measurements with you before you go shopping.

Desks That Fit the Bill

The "Sit to Stand Desk" - Made by Relax the Back

The Sit to Stand Desk is expensive (almost $1700), but may be well worth it for those suffering from back pain caused by hunching over their desks all day. This desk has a built-in motor and easy controls that allow you to raise or lower it from 25 to 52 inches - making it great for shorter individuals who want to sit or very tall individuals who prefer to stand. By standing for part of your workday, you take stress off your back and alleviate those painful work muscles. This desk also comes with cable passes and optional storage cabinets.

Airtouch - Made by Steelcase

The Airtouch is another of the computer office desks designed as a light workstation solution that's height adjustable. However, it lacks storage, making it either a great desk for a laptop user or someone willing to invest in additional storage. The desk is reasonably priced, well-designed and is also certified for indoor air quality - that means the glues and materials used in its construction are carcinogen-free.

Clutter

A storage shed is a light structure (generally made of wood) in a back garden used for storage of tools, vehicles, or useful items and is very often used to pursue hobbies like gardening and light engineering. Storage sheds are available in a variety of designs and materials in the market.

Types of Storage Sheds Based on Material. The materials used for storage sheds are wood, plywood, vinyl, metal, steel and Rubbermaid. The materials have various advantages and disadvantages. Wood is the preferred material as it gives an aesthetic appeal. However wood needs to be treated for ultraviolet protection every year and sometimes treatment is also given for protection against pests and borers. Cedar wood is preferred material. Particle wood and plywood are very popular for storage shed sidings. However they are least resistant to water as they get out of shape after repeated wetting and drying. Hence plywood should be avoided in places where it rains frequently.

Vinyl has the advantage of being maintenance free. However vinyl is lower on the visual attractiveness scale. Metal sidings include aluminum, which is light and when anodized gives a good look and lasts a long time. Steel sidings, though cheap, should be avoided as they rust easily. Metal sidings have the least appealing look. Vinyl coated steel has a long life and gives good strength. Rubbermaid and poly vinyl chloride sidings are maintenance free ,requiring no painting, no rust treatment and no rot or pest treatment. One thing that should be looked into while selecting siding material is that the siding material should match with the main building siding material. A different siding material may give a contrasting look to the storage shed.

Do It Yourself Kits Vs Professional Installation. Storage sheds can be professionally installed as well as self assembled. Usually for easy assembly, the parts are numbered in self-assembly type storage shed kits. Also assembly instructions are provided with storage-shed kits. Self-assembly may save money and can be a satisfying though difficult experience.

Sizes & Accessories. The usual sizes of storage sheds are, 12’ X 24’, 12’ X 30’, 12’ X 10’, 10’ X 14’, 10’ X 8’, 8’ X 6’ etc. It is better to opt for a double door. For those who want to keep light engineering machines, a good foundation is necessary. Other accessories that come with storage sheds are windows, shutters, weathervanes etc. Hooks and shelves increase the capacity of the storage shed by utilizing vertical space. The windows should be so designed that they match with the main building.

Building Codes and Laws. In various states there are laws on sheds like zoning ordinance, building codes, deed restrictions, building permits, siding materials etc. It is prudent to go through these before installing a storage shed.

Storage sheds are available in various shapes, colors, patterns and sizes. They can be customized to suit an individual’s taste. Smaller sheds are called tool sheds. Larger sheds called barns are used to house vehicles, boats and other large items. The prices range from 0 to 00 depending upon size, material and accessories in the storage shed.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    clutter....?
I can't throw things away, and I moving to a smaller place....whats the best thing to do, except throw it out?

    • ANSWER:
You can't organize clutter. Clutter breeds clutter. Ask yourself "Do I love this item? Does it make me smile? Do I use it? Have I used it in the last year?" If you answer no to any of these questions, then bless someone else with it. You can give it away to a local charity or try www.freecycle.org to see if there is a group in your area.

  2. QUESTION:
    Clutter...?
Do you have trouble with cluter?
What's the best way to declutter?

    • ANSWER:
The moment you bring that mail into the house go through everything; don't leave it on the counter; throw the junk mail out straight away.
Before going to work have your bed made and bedroom neat and tidy and the dishes done.
Make it a habit to keep things thrown away.
      Can't think of anything else.

  3. QUESTION:
How can I maintain clutter free home without constantly cleaning out and organizing?
I moved into an apt. and try to create the hotel like (clutter free) atmosphere. I don`t own much stuff to begin with and before buying anything, I think where to put it etc... I take trash out every day. Yet without constantly organizing and cleaning out everyday, its hard to maintain the clutter free home..
    Do you have any tips?

    • ANSWER:
The key to being clutter free is constant effort. You have to be vigilant at making sure that everything is returned to its home.
But first you have to give it a home!
Setting up systems that you can use to make sure that everything gets picked up and put away immediately is key.
For example - I always suggest going through the mail and filing it right away BEFORE you take your coat off.

All the papers that need attention get filed into the action file, junk mail goes to the recycle bin and any thing that needs to be kept for reference but does not need action can be filed in a reference file where you keep papers in case you need them again.

But the key is every piece of paper has to have an address! and you have to put it there.

Another important part of clutter control is balance - whenever something comes in to a space something has to go! This requires constant attention to purging or editing your stuff and making sure that you are only keeping what is necessary and adding value to your life.

      So in a nutshell:
*create a place for everything to live
*make sure everything is put in its home - don't put anything down to deal with later
*regularly purge and edit your stuff
*establish good personal organization skills of decision making and sorting.

This should help you to stay on top of clutter most of the time.

  4. QUESTION:
How do you handle clutter in your home?
I have a hard time with clutter. I try to declutter, but it doesn't seem to work for long. In my house, an empty flat surface is an invitation to pile something on. What methods do you use to declutter?
I am very interested in getting it taken care of. Once it's gone, it will be a lot easier to prevent from returning.

    • ANSWER:
The first step is to clear every surface to 1 surface like the kitchen table then sort out the trash, bills, important papers and create other appropriate groupings (keys, books, etc). Now toss the trash, and put everything else away then get a mail sorter with a key holder, a trash can (small with a lid so it's not in the way) and a basket for books and other items. When you get the mail sort it (if you get magazines be sure to have a place to keep them (only keep the current month) and remember to recycle your old ones at a local hospital, daycare or school). Then once a week clean out the basket when you dump the trash - this should keep clutter down and your home tidy. Good Luck!

  5. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of all the clutter in my home?
My husband and I have a small 2 bedroom home which seems to be cluttered. Husband in the military so he has lots of extra gear and uniforms. We have lots of luggage and clothes and shoes. I would like to know the easiest and cheapest way to rid clutter, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
      Go to this websit: www.flylady.net

Take some time to read through the home page. It's a huge site so don't get overwhelmed. The lady that founded this site is a godsent! Her system is so easy it doesn't even feel like work. Its free to join her yahoo group. She also accepts email questions and you always get a response. Good luck and take your time. Your house did not get cluttered in a day so it wont get uncluttered in a day either.

  6. QUESTION:
How can I reduce my clutter tolerance?
I'm looking for advice from people who have had this problem, or can at least give me a serious answer.

I seem to have an unusually high tolerance for messiness, specifically dry clutter (paper, shoes, etc.). I tell myself I'm going to fix it, I put myself of schedules, but I have a horrendous case of the "It's not too bad, I'll do it later" syndrome, and it piles up. We don't entertain in our home, so I can't use that as motivation. I was raised in a similar environment where housekeeping just wasn't a priority. And I want SO bad to change. My husband flipped a switch somewhere along the lines and it irritates him (unless it's his mess), and now we're expecting a child. I am obviously aware that when babies go mobile they get into EVERYthing, but just as important, I want to break the cycle. But I have to get in the hang of things before Baby gets here.

**I do NOT have science experiements growing in my house, just a lot of dry, disorganized mess.
I keep the dishes and laundry clean, it's just a matter of putting it away once it's clean. I micro-organize just fine (things like my make-up shelf, or alphabatizing the cd's, etc.) but when it comes to larger things I lose ambition. Plus, when I do it when hubby's not around, he comes home and messes it up and loses everything again. I have VERY limited storage, I can't modify my apartment, I can't afford (and don't have room for) more storage options that what I have. I know I need to purge and get rid of a lot of stuff, but once that's done, I need practical ways of keeping my house clean and safe (and so I'm not embarassed to open the door when someone DOES knock).
Okay, girls, like I said, if it were a matter of "just do it", it wouldn't really be a problem. But if I took a weekend to tear apart and clean out my closets, it would only get worse because when the motivation died, all the stuff that belonged IN the closet, would be out in the room itself. And I had asked for advise for someone who knew from my perspective, not tips from clean-freaks to whom this stuff comes naturally.

    • ANSWER:
Sounds to me like you have everything figured out, even to the point of self-analyzing yourself. The only thing left to do is do it. I share one trait with you in that my wife is quite like your husband. I'm retired but wife still works. When one partner isn't motivated to keeping "stuff" picked up and organized, it affects the motivation of the other person as well. I've discussed this with my wife, she agrees to try, but after a couple weeks, it's back to the same ol' same ol'. I've accepted "less than perfect" as my attitude, and am surprised at how much I exceed my standard.
I would suggest approaching your problem with small bites. I really believe a little straightening up leads to more. And when my wife saw how I was maintaining the standard, she began tidying up herself. We don't maintain a cyrstal-clear home, but we're not embarrassed when company drops by unannounced either. Good luck, and remember small steps first....

  7. QUESTION:
How do you deal with cord clutter?
I've been making good progress at getting rid of clutter these last 3 weeks of vacation. What a way to spend a vacation.
But I hate how unsightly cords look. Like there's hundreds of cords under this computer. (I didn't set it up.)
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
Untangle the cords.Roll up excess slack, tie a "tie wrap" around the rolled up part and hide.(If no tie wrap just use the wire that is wraped around the opening of a bread loaf or any stiff wire)

  8. QUESTION:
what is the best way to de-clutter and clean a pack rat's apartment?
he's a pack rat who hasn't cleaned out the place in two years!! he's planning to work 8 hours a day for five days during his work holiday. what is the best method for him to de-clutter and clean his apartment. it is seriously bad.

    • ANSWER:
Room by room. When i do major cleaning, I separate my time into which rooms i will do each day. I empty out cupboards, closets, drawers, everything. I put the stuff in piles or bins depending on what kinds of things they are. If they stay in that cupboard, i put them back right away, if not I put them in piles of
      1. things to stay in that room
      2. garbage
      3. things to go in other rooms
when i'm done in that room, i go through the bins, putting things in their place in the room, putting things in the room that they belong in, and getting rid of the garbage. When something belongs in a room that is not done yet, it can go anywhere in the room, when it belongs in a finished room, it goes in its place.

  11. QUESTION:
How long is it going to take to clear the clutter and clean my house?
Yikes! It's holiday season and my house in in disarray. Between work, school and Christmas shopping I have little time to sort the clutter and polish the decks. Anyone got any encouraging advice?

    • ANSWER:
      I do the opposite.
I start in the worst room. You feel so good to get something so major accomplished, you want to keep going. If I start in an easy room, (living room, kitchen), I'm more likely to stop because I'm still dreading the worst room.
When you clean a room, put everything that doesn't belong in that room in one area. When you're finished, take the items to the room they belong in. That way you don't get side tracked and start cleaning the other room before the first one is finished.
And definately turn up the music!!
      It helps sooo much!!
Dust, vacuum and oraganize at once a week and just straighten up each night before you go to bed. It's so nice to wake up to a tidy house!!
Also, invest in some Mr. Clean Majic Erasers. They're a Godsend!!
      Good luck!!

  12. QUESTION:
    How do you eliminate clutter?
Almost spring cleaning time. Any good ideas how eliminate clutter? What keep to what to throw away? Any ideas?

    • ANSWER:
make several bins (rubbermaid boxes are great) label them:
Trash; Charity; Garage Sale (or whatever).
Go room to room and place every thing you dont need or have not worn in over 18 months in one of those bins.
Once done in all rooms. Keep up basic cleaning, pitching out as you go or see the need. You may have to do the bin thing two seasons a year. That way you can constanly re-evaluate your needs/wants etc.

It seems like a hugh task, but once you get on it, you get into a groove and you can have it done in no time.

With the kids rooms; make it like a game and re-enforce the giving to others aspect and it will make them clutter free and giving in life.

(you will have to help me with spouses/room-mates) I dont have an answer for those (unless you do it while they are gone)

How do I donate my clutter and make money?
I don't have time to sell all my clutter but I've heard there is a way I can donate and still make money. How do I do this?

    • ANSWER:
Hi Leah! First, you have to be able to take the tax deduction on your taxes. Generally, if you file the long-form, 1040 form, you can do this. Assuming you can, be sure to take a picture of every item you donate (you can even put them in a group on a table or something) and make an itemized list. Assign a value to each item (and don't exaggerate or the IRS will be on your back). Take your items to Goodwill (or wherever) and be sure to get a donation receipt from them. Put the picture, the list, and the receipt together.

I usually declutter according to the anthea turner principle ( I know, I know, but it kinda works):

sadly I'm also very good at keeping things, so my place is never decluttered for long :(

  20. QUESTION:
How do you de clutter your home? Are momentos and keepsakes considered clutter as well?
I just seem to have so much stuff, I'm trying very hard to get rid of it. Some of my friends say they keep nothing, and even if they keep something for old times sake, if you don't display it and be proud of it and just pack it away somewhere then it too is clutter, what do you all think?

    • ANSWER:
Clutter is defined as filling space in a disorganized way. There is nothing wrong with showcasing your keepsakes. Just do it in an organized way!

Go through your belongings and put them into 3 piles - 1. "keep", 2. "give away" (or throw away), and 3. "not sure". Once you have your "keepers", group together items that are alike or similar. (candles, baskets, bottles, etc) and show them off. Keep in mind that less is more and put them in odd numbered groupings to make it more visually interesting (3, 5, 7).

You can frame photos, letters, mementos, etc. Choose the same color frame and mat. (black frame, white mat - always a winner) Even if they are different sizes, keeping them in the same color mat and frame will give them a cohesive look. Then group them together on a wall.

Toss or give away pile 2 and box up pile 3. If you haven't looked at box 3 in a year's time toss the box out.

      Hope this helps a little!

  22. QUESTION:
What's your approach to handling magazine clutter in the house?
I only have a few magazine subscriptions but I really like most of the magazines I subscribe to and have a hard time throwing a few of them out. But at the same time, I know it's not practical nor useful to save every magazine - I'm pretty good at throwing out the ones I know I'll never read again. But what do you do about magazines like Better Homes and Gardens or Real Simple that have lots of great everyday recipes and tips that you want to save?

Do you have an approach or technique to managing magazine clippings or magazine clutter in the house so it doesn't become overwhelming?

    • ANSWER:
I do several things to store what I want from magazines.
      1) I use sevaral 3 ring notebooks with different subjects on the cover and I have plastic slip covers for those articles that are several pages that I want to be able to refer to. I take out the pages and put them in the slip covers. This works great for shopping for a remodeling job to go to the store to get the right stuff. The pictures are there and the lists of products used. This can be translated to all categories and subjects from crafts to food.
      2) I use a scanner or my camera to take images of recipes and craft projects that I do not need to take with me to another location and can paste them into Word Documents and burn them to a CDRW or a DVDRW.
      3) I still want to hang onto magazines that have value to me such as memorials of people who meant something to me or the McCaughy septuplets and other special covers. These I do keep and hold onto.

I need a way to get motivated to clean and get rid of clutter. Any suggestions?
I'm very embarrassed to even admit this: I'm a messy person. I have a bedroom full of clutter. I have gotten rid of 10+ boxes of stuff thinking that would help me clean things up...but it didn't work. I need a way to get motivated and organized. Can anyone relate to this? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get my bedroom clean so I can be happy?

Please only serious answers. I do not want any smart remarks or people to make fun of me because I already realize this is something that can be easily taken care of -- I just don't know what to do.

    • ANSWER:
First things first: Turn off the computer.
Okay. So I could not resist, but seriously, don't be embarrassed. Even clean-freak Monica on Friends had that closet of shame full of clutter. It's normal.
You're on the right track w/ the 10+ boxes so keep that up. I find it very freeing every time I clear out a closet/drawer and haul some stuff down to the Goodwill.
If it seems overwhelming, just work on the clutter for 20 minutes a day.
As for me, there's nothing like a visit from the in-laws to motivate me to clean. If you have a super organized friend, ask for her help in exchange for drinks, dinner, etc.
And most importantly, stop accumulating more clutter. Before you buy anything, consider where you'll put it. Don't forget the old adage, "A place for everything, and everything in it's place."
      Good Luck!
Oh, and I've tried that flylady.com and was barraged with emails - clutter.

  25. QUESTION:
What is your best way to remove clutter?
My Daughter is away for the day. She never gets rid of anything even when she does not use it. She has WAY too much "stuff" for the size of her room. I am going to go through her things and get rid of all the "junk" that she does not need or use and give it to charity. That way It will be a lot easier for her to clean her room. The problem is that I have ADD. It is almost impossible for me to "sort things" and "organize things". I get very frustrated because I don't do this well but of course I have to. Does anybody know an easier way for me to go through all the mess and clutter and not get so confused or sidetracked? Please people... Don't answer if you only have mean things to say because this is a serious question. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
Get some Rubbermaid bins or some shoe boxes. First, stuff that is garbage *(you will probably have alot of it), put aside right away. Stuff that doesn't belong in the room (dishes, etc) put in another bin-- she can return those to the right places later. Next, you could either sort (you said you don't;' like sorting), but you could just group stuff together. Put all the clothes on the bed (she can sort later). Put all makeup/jewelry/accessories on the dresser. Try to get everything off the floor. Once you have them in big categories, you can see what is garbage, which is charity, etc. You can get a head start, and get her to help you when she gets home.

  26. QUESTION:
Any tips on how I could decorate my small room to look bigger and clutter-free?
after years of having to share my room with my brothers, I finally have it to myself. But now my parents take my room as their second closet. I need ideas on how I could decorate and make my room clutter free. Im also on a budget. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Use lots of baskets to store your stuff in. Or, round decorator tables with table cloths offer hideaway storage. You could paint one wall a striking color that coordinates with the other three walls.

One idea that I like is to print off black and white photos from my digital camera, blow them up and put them in store frames. Then hang them in a grouping together on one wall. You can even spray paint the frames to be matchy matchy if you like.

Or, create your own artwork and frame it in a cheapy frame. Even leaves or ferns or dried flowers can be put into frames.
Use discount fabrics at walmart or fabric stores and cover pillows.

  27. QUESTION:
I have a serious problem with organization and clutter at work and at home. How can I combat this?
It has been a problem I have had all my life. It is costing me in my relationships at work and perhaps costing me respect at my job.

I am the worst procrastinator that I know of and I think it may be related.

I have recently started reading some personal development books. Tony Robbins, Og Mandino, Steven Covey. Kenneth Blanchard. Norman vincent Peale. I am just starting to crack the spines on them. They are insightful, and I won't say that they aren't doing for what they are intended, but I cannot help but think there are other people out there with the same problem who have received help and conquered this affliction, both the procrastination and the disorganization and clutter in my workspace and home.

I think that if I can conquer the procrastination, the rest will follow suit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
if you have a problem all your life with this don't expect you to be able to solve it. by reading books you are relying on yourself (the person that all his life could not get it right) to solve this problem. you just can't.
you need to go to a psychologist & get to the root of your procrastinaton & have someone else work with you to get back on track. also, you can hire a professonal organizer to come to your house & show you how to get organiszed & sell all those books cluttering up your home. you can go to franklyn covey & they can show you how to organize your stuff at work by going to a class & having the proper oraganizational tools you will be good to go.

just be done with it already.... take my advise since you asked for it. roll with it & put this behind you before you die all unorganized & cluttered under a pile of tony robbins books.

be serious & knock this out

hope this was helpfull & inspirational

  29. QUESTION:
What do you consider to be clutter?
A friend of mine lives in a government subsidized apartment and they inspected her place and told her she had too much "clutter". Now, I visit her often and she jsut had some cases of soda, some packages that were delivered from FedEx that day, bottled water on the kitchen floor and a few clothes on her bedroom floor. Is this clutter? She also had some lightbulbs on the dining room table: about 20 boxes.

    • ANSWER:
I consider that a little clutter, not bad. So it will be easy for her to clean it up.=)

  30. QUESTION:
    How can I get a pack-rat to de-clutter?
Short of throwing crap away, how can I get someone to de-clutter? I feel like he has made SO much progress, but he still is hanging on to stuff just for the sake of keeping it. I've pleaded.. and begged- nothing works. So far, the only thing that has been working is "donating" his stuff.

    • ANSWER:
I deal with this every day. Hoarding is the term used. Sometimes it is a true mental illness that causes someone to hold on to items....the item has sentimental meaning and therefore represents the person who gave it to them...if they throw away the item, in essence, they throw away the person. Or they feel that something bad will happen to them (this is an OCD feeling).

It is hard for some people to donate stuff because they feel their stuff will be misused or unappreciated.

I would be happy to talk with you about ways to help this person. Just e-mail me.

  31. QUESTION:
Why is it so hard to get started organizing the clutter in my house?

  32. QUESTION:
IWhat to do about clutter in you house?
My house is pretty neat but I have lots of clutter in my closets. I have tried to get rid of some items but each time I go thru it I wanna keep everthing. HELP!

    • ANSWER:
Here are some clutter-busting tips. Take everything out of a closet and then apply the following rules:

      - Look at each item, and ask yourself, "Why am I keeping this?" If the answer is anything other than that you love the item, then get rid of it.
      - No holding onto something just because it "might" come back in style some day--It won't!
      - Don't keep things that you don't like simply because someone important to you gave it to you. Donate the item to a charity where they can find someone who truly loves it--or at least someone who likes it!
      - Don't keep things that you don't use. It doesn't matter if you just used it today. If you know you'll never use it again (like the shoes that gave you a blister the last time you wore them), get rid of it.
      - Don't keep things that have sentimental value if you know they will never see the light of day outside of your closet. If an item means that much to you, put it out where you can enjoy it, or take a picture of it, keep the picture, and donate the item to a charity.
      - Make it a rule to get rid of any clothes that don't fit you. By the time you fit into your "skinny" clothes, they may be completely out of style (been there, done that!).
      - Get rid of any clothes that you're embarrassed to be seen wearing in public. And then get rid of the ones that make everyone else embarrassed to be seen in public with you!

If that doesn't get rid of at least half of what's in your closet, take it all out and start over again!

  33. QUESTION:
Easy way to clean up clutter?
I think theres too much clutter in my room. Is there an easy way to make things look cleaner?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, according to flylady.net, set the timer for 15 minutes, do the 27 fling!
Basically, to declutter a room: Pick a spot-declutter it by removing the trash, if it's a piece of furniture, while you are there, dust it. Put things that belong on that surface back, in an orderly fashion. Then go on to the next surface, etc. Things that don't belong in that room, put back wherre they do belong. A place for everything, and everything in it's place. If too much stuff, trash, or give, or sell it. Then, run the vacuum in the room, and done! Take care.

  34. QUESTION:
Are there any places for me to advertise my clutter clearing buisness for free?
I know there are groups that meet to learn how to get rid of clutter. I am very good at helping people do this & I make it fun for them. I really live in an area that is too far from everyone to keep riding out to their houses so I have decided to do this over the phone. I would like to get about 10 new customers but I am not sure as to where to advertise. Are there specific places people go who want help in cleaning up their clutter filled houses or offices?

    • ANSWER:
Is there a grade school or high school within reach of your home?? Go and ask if you can put an ad in their weekly newsletter ...... very effective advertising right there ........... they'd probably charge you a small amount of money but it wouldn't be much ....... sorry, i didn't really answer the question properly but a lot of the women i bump into through school ....... i've got children in grade school....... live very cluttered disorganised lives........... ;0)

Or you could print up notices from your computer and put them in place like the notice board at your local shopping centre, corner milk bar, local health food store etc.etc.......... all those places would be free.

oh, i hope you don't mind ........ i connected to you yesterday ..... instinctive compulsion ....... i liked one of your answers and just felt compelled to add you........ how bizarre of me.

      peace baby

  35. QUESTION:
How can I keep clutter out of my house?

  36. QUESTION:
I have a problem with hoarding; any tips on getting rid of the clutter in the room that I live in?
The room is located in the upstairs portion of my parents' house right across from their attic. Any advice on getting rid of the clutter would be greatly appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
You will probably have trouble throwing certain things away, but you know you should. For that stuff, buy some identical boxes. Put the "should discard" items in the boxes. As you add things, keep a list of what is in each box. Attach the list to the outside of the box. Stack the boxes neatly or store them elsewhere. After a period of time, like six months, you may be ready to throw those items away.

Don't be too hard on yourself. If you just do 15 minutes a day, you won't get too discouraged. There is a reason for your hoarding, and you can't ignore the reason. It's not just a matter of willpower. Everybody has an irrational aspect, and this is yours.

  37. QUESTION:
How do I get rid of the clutter in my home?
I get up, shower, clean the bathroom, do my bed and go to work. I get home from work, cook dinner, clean the kitchen and do laundry,go to bed, an ugly routine....I don't have the energy to clean house and everything is piling up, the clutter and the cleaning. I hate it! Friday to Sunday I go out, I don't have time to pick up or clean house. Where do I start?!!

    • ANSWER:
Decluttering, if done 15 mon. per day works pretty good. I have signed up with flylady.net myself. It sure helps me a lot.
Pick a room, pick a surface in the room. Maybe dust one evening, the next vacuum. Do you have a bin for recycling? Trash? When sorting thru the mail each evening, sort into keep, (where it goes if keep), recycle, and trash. That goes a little bit quicker when you do it that way, as opposed to just piling up the mail a week at a time.
I hope this helps, even a little bit. Take care.

  39. QUESTION:
Do maids organize or just clean what is already clutter free?
I got to school full time and work, my mom is sick and my dad never has time to clean so our house is and has been a pig sty ever since I was little. My mom said she would pay for a maid but I'm wondering if they do organize lots of this stuff can be thrown away and its pretty obvious. We just don't have the time and I hate living like this. So will maids organize not just clean what is alreay clutter free?

    • ANSWER:
I was a maid/cleaning lady for 18 years and I cleaned all kinds.I worked for myself, not a service.I always organized as a matter of course but that was just the way I clean.I cleaned like it was my home. You need to ask around and see if you can get some references from others who have a maid.I don't recommend services because I cleaned up behind them and they rarely did a good job.You rarely get the same people each time. The first time cleaning was always more to get it in order then I set a weekly or Bi monthly rate after that according to what was done or expected of me.

  40. QUESTION:
Why do I have more paper clutter than my husband?
It seems like I have piles of papers and miscellaneous amounts of paper clutter while my husband doesn't have any? How is this possible? What can I do to eliminate the clutter? Even when I try I end up with three boxes of things that I can't throw away because they're important to keep. Help?

  41. QUESTION:
How do you deal with the clutter that your family brings into the house every day?
I know my son has to bring in every attractive rock, every bristly pine cone, every dead beetle that he finds. These are his treasures and he loves them. And while I dispose of it as much as I can, it keeps coming in! I'm not a clutter/junk person. At all. I don't have stuff on my tabletops, I don't have stuff on shelves other than books (ok, so maybe it's called "bachelor decor" but still...) But my son likes his stuff. How do you handle clutter?

    • ANSWER:
I'm a clutter bug and my husband is messy as heck so it's a bad mix. (Although i've always been a clean clutter bug)

One way I handle all of the "things" that come home is a plastic storage bin, my kids put all the crap they want in it and when it gets full of rocks and twigs (or the occasional small animal, true story) it goes right into the plastic bin and I get to decided if it should stay or go.

As for keepable items I build my kids some cubbyholes made out of milk crates (I spray painted them bright colors and screwed them into the wall) they work great and the kids can puit all the stuff they want in them. I also got them a couple of shelves really cheap at Walmart, as a point we keep all of their fancy rocks and nick-nacks in thier rooms.

  42. QUESTION:
Have you ever noticed that clutter can help keep things from breaking?
Whenever something breakable falls to the floor, it seems like there is almost always something there, some sort of clutter that I didn't pick up yet, to break its fall. So many times I have thanked God there was something there. But I don't want to be a clutterbug anymore either!

  44. QUESTION:
Anyone have ideas for a clutter free art space in a bedroom?
We live in a small townhome, but I have a bedroom where I can set up a space of my own (have to leave the bed in there, plus dresser. I plan to use some of the dresser drawers for storage, and I have a table and an easel. Does anyone have any storage ideas for the walls? I hate clutter and like things to be put away. I do drawing and acrylic/watercolor painting.

    • ANSWER:

  45. QUESTION:
How do I clean up the clutter in my room?
I have a ton of clutter. I would like to get rid of it and make my room look more grown up and neater.

    • ANSWER:
There are different ways you can accomplish this. One way is to start in one corner or one side. Get a garbage bag and some boxes marked donate/give away, keep/sort, and unsure. A laundry basket might come in handy, too. As you go through things, decide which category they belong in: garbage; things you want to donate or give away; things you know you want to keep, but will sort through and put away later; things you can't decide whether you want to keep or part with;, but will put away for a few months and then go through again; laundry basket for any clothing that needs laundering. Of course, you can do your own variation of this. Choose whatever method works best for you. Since you said you wanted to make your room more grown up looking, I'm thinking you might have some things you'd like to keep but not necessarily in your room. These items you could designate to a special storage area. If you have a lot, you might want to organize them in separate boxes or bins. Good luck with your room cleaning!

  46. QUESTION:
Is it an electrical code violation to have the breaker panel inaccessible due to basement clutter?
I was at a friend's house yesterday, and her circuit breaker panel is located in a storage room in the basement. The room is completely cluttered with junk, and just to get to the breaker panel, one must climb all over the clutter (toys, boxes of knick-knacks, Christmas decorations, usual garage sale stuff). My friend's sister was drying her hair in the bathroom, and the breaker tripped. I resetted it, but it took me 3 minutes just to get over all the junk in the room to reach the breaker panel.

Is this an electrical code violation?

    • ANSWER:
It definitely is a requirement for basically any and every location of Circuit breakers, fused switchboards or metering locations for safety reasons. It's compulsory and enacted by Governments etc that "CLEAR and SAFE ACCESS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ANY AND EVERY LOCATION MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY AT ALL TIMES". Common sense and home safety should be evident to be able to gain or get access for any reason, including fire or other damage occurring in the locations mentioned. This is a serious and dangerous violation of any Legal Installation of an Electricity Installation and possibly is considered by Courts as a serious risk to life and property and resultant fines by Courts etc. and the result should be a viable deterrent for any occupant or even the owner if the property is occupied by themselves etc.

  48. QUESTION:
Will your house be a mess, a cute clutter or a prim picture from a magazine on Christmas?
My grandma's will be a picture from a magazine and will quickly turn into a mess

Mine's a pretty cute clutter all day.

    • ANSWER:

  49. QUESTION:
Has anybody here overcome or has almost completely conquered clutter?
And now you have a relaxing, neat, clean, tidy, spic and span place (or almost there)?
And it doesn't have to be just your clutter, it can be the whole family's, lol.
    Any tips and hints?
And if you know that you know you need to keep items that will definitely be used but have very little space where or how do you store those?

    • ANSWER:
I am getting there but have not completely conquered clutter. I am a natural born pack rat, recycler and like to keep things I think can be re-purposed rather than throw them away. I have found a system that works for me, however, on most items EXCEPT paper which I wind up keeping a lot more of than I should and have a bad habit of piling on my desk.

I have become a birds of a feather and put in a container organizer where clutter is concerned. Like items are stored together so they are easy to locate. And, I leave a lot of my clutter right in plain sight, but in a container which disguises it. For example, we have a bunch of remote controls in the family room which are housed in a beautiful decorative box which sits on the coffee table. In the kitchen, I keep the dish soap, hand cream, frequently used vinegars and oils on a beautiful antique silver tray in liquor bottles I have cleaned, removed the labels from and fitted with whiskey pourer spouts so they look decorative, but messy.

In my bathroom, I've used an antique tea set to house my bath salts (teapot), cotton balls (sugar) and q-tips (creamer) again on a lovely tray. I have little linen storage space in my guest bathroom, so I roll up towels, wash cloths and hand towels in a large sterling silver ice bucket so they are easy for guests to use, collected together in a tidy manner.

People who visit my home and pick something up are often surprised at the junk that may be housed inside, but if I have something with a lid, that can be used for storage, I will find something to put inside of it.

  50. QUESTION:
Why do some people like clutter around their homes?
My family likes to buy things that we really don't need like books, clothes, shoes, decrative items and its just added clutter and i'm interested in fung shqa, don't know if i spelled it right, that says a the way a person's home is kept affects their health, mood, etc, and i'm not a neat freak but all this stuff is not neccessary. I plan on moving out next year and love open space with some family photos, a plant, and a lamp or two. I can't tell them nothin' cause they just do whateva so any advice?

    • ANSWER:
Live and let live. Live the way that you want in the space that you want and let them live the way that they want in the space that they want. If you worry about how they live you will only cause yourself undue stress over something that you will probably never change.

Praise be to Allah (Subhaanahu Wa' Ta'aalaa);

Intoduction to hoors of Jannah (Paradise):

*Definition of Houris (also called: hoor al-Ayn/hur ul-Ayn/hoors/hurs) from Noble Quran:

"Very fair females created by Allah as such not from the off-spring of Adam, with intense black irises of their eyes and intense white scleras". [Noble Quran; Glossary; Houris]

The Houris (hoors/hoor al-Ayn) have variously been described as being "chaste females", "restraining their glances", "modest gaze", "wide and beautiful/lovely eyes", "untouched / with hymen unbroken by sexual intercourse", "like pearls", "virgins", "voluptuous/full-breasted", "with large, "non-menstruating/urinating/defecating and childfree", round breasts which are not inclined to hang", "companions of equal age", "transparent to the marrow of their bones", "eternally young", "hairless" , "pure", "beautiful", "white", "revirginating", "splendid beauty".

Now you can read some verses of the Holy Quran mentioning the attributes of Houris (Hoor al-ayn/Hurs):

"And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes; (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved." [Sura As-SAffAt (37):40-48]

"And beside them will be chaste females (virgins) restraining their glances only for their husbands, (and) of equal ages." [Sura SAd (38):52]

"So (it will be), and We shall marry them to Houris (female fair ones) with wide, lovely eyes." [Sura Ad-DukhAn (44):51-55]

"They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes." [Sura At-TAr (52):20]

"Wherein both (gardens) will be those (maidens) restraining their glances upon their husbands, whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them. Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? (In beauty) they are like rubies and coral." [Sura Ar-RahmAn (55):56-58]

"Therein (gardens) will be fair (wives) good and beautiful; ...Houris (beautiful, fair females) restrained in pavilions; ...Whom no man or jinn yatmithhunna (has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them." [Sura Ar-RahmAn (55):70,72,74]

"And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), Like unto preserved pearls." [Sura Al-WAqi'ah (56):22-23]

Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. And made them virgins; Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. [Sura Al-WAqi'ah (56):37-40]

And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age; [Sura An-Naba' (78):33]

Now you can read some Hadiths regarding the attributes of Houris (Hur ul-ayn/Hoors):

AllAh (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:

"Houris (beautiful, fair females) restrained in pavilions

...With Whom no man or jinn "yatmithhunna" (has opened their hymens with sexual intercourse) before them." [Sura Ar-RahmAn (55):72,74]

"The statement of Allah in above mentioned ayah, Beautiful fair females restrained in pavilions. Narrated Qaisi, Allah's Apostle said, 'In Paradise there is a pavilion made of a single hollow pearl sixty miles wide, in each corner there are wives (houris) who will not see those in the other corners; and the believers (Muslims) will visit and enjoy them.'" [Al-Bukhari vol.6:402 and prior p.374]

According to Ibn Kathir (died 1373 CE) in his Holy Quranic commentary (Tafsir) of the above mentioned Surah Al-Rahman (55), verse 72: "The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives (houris), over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]'." [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]

The Prophet (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said, "If a houri looks down from her abode in heaven onto the earth, the whole distance (space) shall be filled with light and fragrance. A houri's face is more radiant than a mirror, and one can see one's image in her cheek. The marrow of her shins is visible to the eyes." [Mishkat, volume 3,pg 83-97]

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The first batch (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the full moon, and the batch next to them will be (glittering) like the most brilliant star in the sky. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man, for they will have neither enmity nor jealousy amongst themselves; everyone will have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the bones and the flesh." [Al-Bukhari vol.4, book 54, number 476]

Narrated Anas (R.A.): The Prophet (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said, "A single endeavor (of fighting) in Allah's Cause in the afternoon or in the forenoon is better than all the world and whatever is in it. A place in Paradise as small as the bow or lash of one of you is better than all the world and whatever is in it. And if a houri from Paradise appeared to the people of the earth, she would fill the space between Heaven and the Earth with light and pleasant scent and her head cover is better than the world and whatever is in it." [Al-Bukhari volume 4, book 52, number 53]

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "The first group of people who will enter Paradise, will be glittering like the full moon and those who will follow them, will glitter like the most brilliant star in the sky. They will not urinate, relieve nature, spit, or have any nasal secretions. Their combs will be of gold, and their sweat will smell like musk. The aloes-wood will be used in their centers. Their wives will be houris. All of them will look alike and will resemble their father Adam (in statute), sixty cubits tall." [Al-Bukhari vol.4, book 55, number 544]

The Prophet (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said: "A houri is a most beautiful young woman with a transparent body. The marrow of her bones is visible like the interior lines of pearls and rubies. She looks like red wine in a white glass. She is of white color, and free from the routine physical disabilities of an ordinary woman such as menstruation, menopause, urinal and offal discharge, child bearing and the related pollution. A houri is a girl of tender age, having large breasts which are round (pointed), and not inclined to dangle. Houris dwell in palaces of splendid surroundings." [At-Tirmizi, volume 2, pg 35-40]

In book by the great Imam Ghazzali: Ihya Uloom Ed-Din. Volume 4, Page-4.430;

"According to Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) the Hurs (Houris) of Paradise will be pure womena"free of menstruation, urine, stool, cough and children. The Hurs will sing in Paradise on divine purity and praisea"we are most beautiful Hurs and we are for the honored husbands. Muhammad also said that an inmate of Paradise will have the sexual strength of 70 men. Muhammad said, "An inmate of Paradise will have 500 Hurs, 4,000 unmarried women and 8,000 widowed women. Each of them will keep embracing him for the duration of his whole worldly life."

Volume 4, Page-4.428 of the same book: The Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said once to Jaber: "Shall I not give you the news of the windows of Paradise ? We said: 0 Messenger of God give us that information. He said: Those are made of emeralds and jewels. Their inner parts will be seen from their outer parts. Therein there will be such enjoyments, amusements and joys as no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no heart has conceived. I said: 0 Messenger of God, who will be the owners of those windows? He said: Those who spread peace, give food, keep fasts, pray at night when the people remain asleep. We asked: 0 Messenger of God, who will be able to do that? He said: My people will be able to do that. I am saying it to you. He who meets his brother, salutes him and replies to his salute,' spreads peace; and he who gives food to his wife and members of his family to their satisfaction gives food. He, who keeps fast of Ramazan and three days every month, keeps fast as it were for the whole year. He who prays Isha and Fajr in congregation prays as it were the whole night when the people remain asleep. God says: The fine buildings in Eden Paradise.' The Prophet said regarding its meanings: These places are builts of emeralds and jewels and in each building there will be 70 rooms of red colour and in each room 70 sub-rooms of green colour and in each sub-room there will be one throne and over each throne 70 beds of varied colours and on each bed a hoor al-ayn (houri- a girl having wide lovely eyes with intense black irises). There will be 70 dining cloth in each room and 70 kinds of food in each dining cloth. There will be seven girls in each room. Each believer will be given such strength in the morning as he can cohabit with them".

Abu 'Umama (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said: "Allah will not admit anyone in the Paradise but Allah, the Mighty and glorious will marry him with 72 wives, two will be from virgin (houris) with big eyes and 70 will be his inheritance from the people of the Hell-Fire*." Every one of them will have a pleasant vagina and he (the man) will have sexual organ that does not bend down during sexual intercourse (perpetual erection)." [Ibn Majah, volume 5, number 4337]

*Hashim b. Khalid (R.A.) says, 'The words "out of his inheritance (due) from the denizens of the Fire", mean men who will enter the Fire (Hell) and the inmates of the paradise will inherit their wives just as the Faroah's wife (Asiah A.S.) will be inherited (by the Muslims-believers).

Mention of the hope of maidens of paradise after martyrdom in Al-Tabari vol.19 p.121; "Yet, by God, I feel happy for what we shall soon meet, for, by God, if all there is between us and the maidens of Paradise (hur al-ayn/houri) is that these people should come against us with their swords, then I want them to come against us with their swords."

Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said that: "Every man in heaven will go to 72 of the creatures of Allah (houris) and 2 of the women of mankind, these two women are superior to the creatures of Allah (houris) with their worshipping (good deeds) they had performed in this world." [Bayhaqi, al-Bas wa'n-Nushur; Tabari, Tafsir; Abu Yala, Ibn Hajar, Fathu'l-Baari, Tabarani and others]

Houris do not want wives to annoy their husbands, since the houris will also be the spouses [i.e. wives] of the Muslim husbands in the afterlife; ---"Mu'adh b. Jobal (R.A.) reported that Allah's Messenger (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said, 'A woman does not annoy her husband but his spouse from amongst the houris (maidens with wide eyes, intensely white and deeply black irises) will say: Do not annoy him, may Allah ruin you." He is with you as a passing guest. Very soon, he will part with you and come to us.'" [Ibn-i-Majah vol.3:2014 p.212]

Now from the above mentioned verses of Holy Quran and Hadiths we can summarize the characteristics of Houris (Hoors/Hur al-ayn) as follows;

* A houri is a most beautiful young woman with a transparent body. The marrow of her bones is visible like the interior lines of pearls and rubies. She looks like a red wine in a white glass.
* She is of white color, and free from the routine physical disabilities of an ordinary woman such as menstruation, menopause, urinal and offal discharge, child bearing and the related pollution.
* She is a woman characterized by modesty and flexing glances; she never looks at any man except her husband and feels grateful for being the wife of her husband.
* A houri is a young woman, free from odium and animosity. Besides, she knows the meaning of love and has the ability to put it into practice.
* A houri is an immortal woman, who does not age. She speaks softly and does not raise voice at her man; she is always reconciled with him. Having been brought up in luxury, she is a luxury herself.
* A houri is a girl of tender age, having large rising breasts which are round, and not inclined to dangle.
* Houris dwell in palaces of splendid surroundings.
* If a houri looks down from her abode in Heaven onto the earth, the whole distance shall be filled with light and fragrance
* A houri's face is more radiant than a mirror and one can see one's image in her cheek. The marrow of her shins is visible to the eyes.
* Every man who enters Paradise shall be given minimum seventy-two houris; no matter at what age he had died, when he enters Paradise, he will become a thirty-year-old and he will not age any further.
* Their glances, with big eyes (Of wonder and beauty)
* when a man turns his face away from her, she will become 70 times more beautiful in his eyes
* if she were to spit in the salty water of the seven occeans, then all the seven occeans would turn sweater than honey.

Also note that the Muslim women of this world will be superior to Houris (Hoors/Hur al-ayn) in Paradise:

*Definition of Houris (hoors/hur al-ayn) from Noble Quran:

"Very fair females created by Allah as such not from the off-spring of Adam, with intense black irises of their eyes and intense white scleras". [Noble Quran; Glossary; Houris]

So it is obvious that houris (hoor al-Ayn) will be different from the off-springs of the Prophet Adam (A.S.), and as humans are the most superior creation of Allah (SWT) so Muslim women are superior to houris just like we as humans are superior to Jinns, Angels and all other creatures of Allah (SWT) that exist. So a hoori who is one of the delights of Paradise, she has only been created in Paradise for the sake of someone else, and has been made the reward for the believing man for his righteous deeds.

But for Muslim women, they themselves are from the off-springs of Adam and the rewards of Paradise are created for them and on the contrary houris (hoors/hur al-ayn) themselves are from the rewards of Paradise.

Therefore it is clear that Muslim women will not feel jealous of the houris (hoor al-Ayn) as righteous women of this world will be much more superior and beautiful than houris (hoor al-Ayn), in Jannah (Paradise). Thus the Muslim women of this worldly life have superiority over houris (hoor al-Ayn) due to the acts of worship and obedience that they performed in this world. Therefore, the believing (Muslim) women will enter Paradise just like the believing men. If a Muslim woman had a number of husbands, she, upon entering Paradise with them, would choose among them the one with the best character and behavior.

The following two Hadiths confirms the fact stated above:

Umme Salamah (Radiahallahu Anha) narrates that she said to the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) "O RasAlullah, are the women of this world superior or the hArs (of Paradise)?" He replied, "The women of this world will have superiority over the hArs (houris) just as the outer lining of a garment has superiority over the inner lining." Umme Salamah R.A then asked, "O RasAlullah, what is the reason for this?" He answered, "Because they performed salAh, fasted, and worshipped [Allah]. Allah will put light on their faces and silk on their bodies. [The human women] will be fair in complexion and will wear green clothing and yellow jewelry. Their incense-burners will be made of pearls and their combs will be of gold. They will say, 'We are the women who will stay forever and we will never die. We are the women who will always remain in comfort and we will never undergo difficulty. We are the women who will stay and we will never leave. Listen, we are happy women and we will never become sad. Glad tidings to those men for whom we are and who are for us.'" [TabrAnA]

Al-Qurtubi said: Abu Bakr ibn al-Najjaad said: Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Shaakir told us, 'Ubayd ibn Ishaaq al-'Attaar told us, Sinaan ibn Haaroon told us, from Humayd from Anas that: Umm Habeebah the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "O Messenger of Allaah, if a woman had two husbands in this life, then they all died and came together in Paradise, with which of them would she be - the first or the last?" He said: "With the one whose attitude and conduct with her was best, O Umm Habeebah; a good attitude brings one the best of this world and the Hereafter."[Al-Tadhkirah fi Ahwaal al-Mawtaa wa'l-Aakhirah, 2/278]

Imam Qurtubi in his "at-Tadhkirah fi-Ahwalil Mawta wa'l-Akhirah (in Remembrance of the Affairs of the Dead and Doomsday)" and Ibn Kathir in his "al-Bidaya wa'n-Nihaya (Kitabu'l-Fitan wa'l-Malahim) the Termination of the Afflictions and Fierce Battles" tell the story of the songs of houri in heaven: "Houri will sing for their own husbands, songs are so marvelous that every hearer will be so pleased. Houri will say: "We are Houri who has not had a sin." The women of this world will reply them saying: "We are the fasters (who keep fast), and you are not, we are the prayers, but you are not and we are the givers of charity but you are not."

And there is another narration which is famous with the name "Hadith of Soor" narrated from Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) that the Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said that: "Every man in heaven will go to 72 of the creatures of Allah (houris) and 2 of the women of mankind, these two women are superior to the creatures of Allah (houris) with their worshipping (good deeds) they had performed in this world." [Bayhaqi, al-Bas wa'n-Nushur; Tabari, Tafsir; Abu Yala, Ibn Hajar, Fathu'l-Baari, Tabarani and others]

Now some people, mostly non-muslims still ask a question that: there will be multiple wives or houris (hoor al-Ayn/hur ul-Ayn/hoors/hurs) in Islamic Paradise for Muslim men then what is for Muslim women?

As stated in above mentioned Hadiths the situation of the believing woman in Paradise will be better than the situation of the houris (hoor al-Ayn); she will be higher in status and more beautiful. If a righteous woman from among the people of this world enters Paradise, then she will do so as a reward for her righteous deeds and as an honor from Allah to her for her religious commitment and righteousness. As for the houri who is one of the delights of Paradise, is an immortal woman, who does not age. She speaks softly and does not raise voice at her man; she is always reconciled with him. Having been brought up in luxury, she is a luxury herself, she has only been created in Paradise for the sake of someone else, and has been made the reward for the believing man for his righteous deeds. There is a great difference between one who enters Paradise as a reward for her righteous deeds and the one who was created as a reward for one who did righteous deeds. The former is a queen and a princess, and the latter, no matter how beautiful she is, is undoubtedly lower in status than a queen, and she (houri) is subject to the command of her believing master (man) for whom Allah created her as a reward.

The main reason why the Quran and Hadith are stressing the fact that men will get Houris (Hoor al-Ayn) is because it more appealing to men than promising virgin men to women. Men are more sexually active and therefore are facing a lot of difficulty (especially in the teenage years) to remain chaste. There are a lot of temptations in this world. That is why that Allah keeps promising these virgin girls to those that remain patient and steadfast. That way, this motivates the unmarried men to remain chaste and be patient because they know they have something better waiting for them in the next life. As if they do not get it legally in the next life then they would get it illegally in this life.

Now with all these proofs you can easily invalidate the argument made by some non-muslims that women will not get any benefits out of the Islamic Paradise. The men and women are equal in the sight of Allah (SWT) except for those whom are more pious. Just because they're equal doesn't mean they're exactly the same. They have physical, mental and emotional differences. Men have superiority over women in certain aspects such as physical strength, while women have more superiority over men from a caring and nurturing perspective. In the same manner, like our differences, they may have rewards that are different from one another, but that in no way suggest inequality. For instance, if you want to reward your son for something, perhaps you'll let him play a video game for example, whereas if you want to reward your daughter, perhaps you'll let her invite her friend over, or buy her something nice.

Therefore, men and women have different needs and wants so obviously rewards would differ. But overall the rewards for both men and women will be equal (but not same) as Allah (SWT) says in the following verses of the Holy Quran:

"And whoever does righteous good deeds, male or female, and is a true believer in the Oneness of AllAh (Muslim), such will enter Paradise and not the least injustice, even to the size of a NaqAra (speck on the back of a datestone), will be done to them." [Surah An-NisA' (4):194]

"Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of IslAmic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)." [Surah An-Nahl (16):97:]

Now following are some Hadiths mentioning the number of the Hoors (houris) that Muslims will get in addition to the wives of this world in Paradise:

According to Ibn Kathir (died 1373 CE) in his Holy Quranic commentary (Tafsir) of the above Surah Al-Rahman (55), verse 72: "The Prophet Muhammad was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives (houris), over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]'." [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]

The Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said: "Every man who enters paradise shall be given 72 (seventy-two) houris; no matter at what age he had died, when he is admitted into paradise, he will become a thirty-year-old, and shall not age any further. A man in paradise shall be given virility equal to that of one hundred men." [Tirmizi, vol. 2 states on page 138]

Narrated Al-Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib: Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "The martyr receives six good things from Allah: he is forgiven at the first shedding of his blood; he is shown his abode in Paradise; he is preserved from the punishment in the grave; he is kept safe from the greatest terror; he has placed on his head the crown of honour, a ruby of which is better than the world and what it contains; he is married to 72 wives of the maidens with large dark eyes (houris); and is made intercessor for seventy of his relatives." [Tirmidhi:Hadith number 1067; and Ibn Majah]

In a book by the great Imam Ghazzali (R.A.): The Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said once to Jaber: "Shall I not give you the news of the windows of Paradise ? [Ihya Uloom Ed-Din.Volume 4, Page-4.428]

*From above mentioned Hadith a simple calculation will show that each believer will get 343,000 wives from houris (hur al-ayn) i.e: 70*70*70 = 343,000 houris/hoor al-ayn.

Narrated from Abu Hurayra (R.A.) that the Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) was asked: "O RasulAllah (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U)! Will we touch our wives in heaven? He (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) replied: A man will touch 100 virgins a day." [Tabarani, al-Mucam as-Saghir & Awsat]

Narrated from Anas (R.A.) that the Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said: "A believer man will have 73 wives in heaven. We asked him (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U): Will he able to do (i.e. have sex with all of them) this? And He (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) replied: He will be given power of 100(men)." [Abu Na'eem Sifat al-Jannah]

Doubtless, a believer will have many houris (hoor al-ayn/hoors/hurs) in heaven which are in addition to his wordly wives but exact number is not given. It implies that the people of Paradise will have these wives according to their degree i.e: those who are more pious will get more wives than others but as mentioned in the following Hadiths:

Abu 'Umama (R.A.) reported that Allah's Messenger (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) said: "Allah will not admit anyone in the Paradise but Allah, the Mighty and glorious will marry him with 72 wives, two will be from virgin (houris/hoor al-ayn) with big eyes and seventy will be his inheritance from the people of the Hell-Fire*." Every one of them will have a pleasant vagina and he (the man) will have sexual organ that does not bend down during sexual intercourse (perpetual erection)." [Ibn Majah, vol.v, page 547: Hadis number 4337]

*Hashim b. Khalid says, 'The words "out of his inheritance (due) from the denizens of the Fire" in above stated Hadith, mean men who will enter the Fire and the inmates of the paradise will inherit their wives just as the Faroah's wife (Aasiah R.A.) will be inherited (by the believers).

The Prophet Muhammad (OU,U OU,U,U OU,UU UOU,U) was heard saying: 'The smallest reward for the people of paradise is an abode where there are 80,000 servants and 72 wives, over which stands a dome decorated with pearls, aquamarine, and ruby, as wide as the distance from Al-Jabiyyah [a Damascus suburb] to Sana'a [Yemen]'." [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]

So that is the minimmum what every Muslim man in Paradise will get.

Another important aspect in Paradise is that:Not just the reward but the beauty of the people of Paradise will also go on increasing with time as mentioned in the following Hadith:

Narrated Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "In Jannah there is a market to which the people will come every Friday. The northern wind will blow and shower fragrance on their faces and clothes and, consequently, it will enhance their beauty and loveliness. They will then return to their wives who will also have increased in their beauty and loveliness, and their families will say to them: 'We swear by Allah that you have been increased in beauty and loveliness since leaving us.' Thereupon they will reply: 'we swear by Allah that you have also been increased in beauty and loveliness since we left you.''' [Sahih Muslim]

Bazaar, where everything will be available, free of cost. Similarly, people will gather there for a time period equal to that of Jumu'ah (friday), as there will be no sun, nor night and day. Another speciality of Jannah is that the beauty and charm of men and women will go on increasing and so the love and affection between husbands and wives will also keep on progressing and increasing. It will be just the opposite of what happens here in this world.

One Important Note (Must Read):

Some Non-Muslims point out to verses in the Qur'an, which speak about how Muslim men would be able to have sex with the Houris in paradise. Then they exclaim that this is immorality or fornication. However, we must pay close attention to what the Quran actually says...

AllAh (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:

"So (it will be), and We shall marry them to Houris (female fair ones) with wide, lovely eyes." [Surah Ad-DukhAn (44):54]

"But those who believe (in the Oneness of AllAh - IslAmic Monotheism) and do deeds of righteousness, We shall admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), abiding therein forever. Therein they shall have AzwAjun Mutahharatun [purified mates or wives (having no menses, stools, urine, etc.)] and We shall admit them to shades wide and ever deepening (Paradise)." [Sura An-NisA' (4): 57]

The word used here is AZWAAJ. In Arabic, it means spouse. Notice, the key word, SPOUSES. The houris (hoors/hurs) will be the wives of Muslim men in Paradise. If a man has sex with his wife, is that fornication? No, of course not, she is his spouse. So, if a man can legitimately have sex with his spouse here on earth, then why can't a man legitimately have sex with his spouse in paradise.

Having said that, the gretest reward for the Muslim believers, men and women, in Jannah (Paradise) will be to view the Countenance (Apperance) of Allah (SWT). And for the believers there will be nothing more delightful than looking at Him;

This is mentioned in the following Hadiths:

Imam Ahmad recorded from Suhayb ibn Sinan ar-Rumi: The Messenger of Allah recited, (the words meaning), "For those who have done good is the best and even more." [Sura Yunus, 26] He said, "When the people of Paradise enter Paradise, a caller will say: 'O people of Paradise, Allah has promised you something that He wishes to fulfill.' They will reply: 'What is it Has He not made our Scale heavy Has He not made our faces white and delivered us from Fire?' He (the narrater) said: "Allah will then remove the veil (from their eyes), and they will look at the Countenance (Appearance) of Allah, the Mighty, the Majestic." He said, "By Allah, they have not been given anything dearer to them and more delightful than looking at Him." [Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Muslim]

Narrated Suhayb ibn Sinan ar-Rumi: The Apostle of Allah said: "When those deserving of Paradise would enter Paradise, the Blessed and the Exalted would ask: Do you wish Me to give you anything more? They would say: Has You not brightened our faces? Has You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Fire? He (the narrator) said: He (God) would lift the veil (from their eyes), and of things given to them nothing would be dearer to them than the sight of their Lord, the Mighty and the Glorious." [Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Number 0347]

Doubtless we, the Muslim, men and women, are promissed to have what we want in Paradise (Jannah);

AllAh (SWT) says in the Holy Quran:

"Therein you shall have (all) that your inner selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask for." [Sura Fussilat 41:31-32]
"They shall have all that they will desire with their Lord. That is the reward of MuhsinAn (pious-good doers)." [Az-Zumar (39);34]

Therefore in Paradise a Muslim, wether male or female, will have every thing that they wish for and they will abide therein forever. So we should strive for this absolute success by doing good and righteous deeds. There are a lot of temptations in this world (mostly created by satan) from which we have to seek refuge with AllAh alone and fear AllAh much and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden. And for that matter we have put our trust completely in Allah (SWT).

"Verily! he (satan) has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (AllAh)."

"His (satan's) power is only over those who obey and follow him (satan), and those who join partners with Him (AllAh) [i.e. those who are MushrikAn-polytheists]." [Sura An-Nahl (16);99,100]

Home Organization Tips:

Tip 1: Pens and pencils Storage. Use a coffee mug for neat and easy storage of your pens and pencils. Everyone has a coffee mug and this is a great way of storing your writing utensils.

Tip 2: Organize your favorite recipes in alphabetical order. How? Using note cards and a note card box or with a binder and alphabetical separators.

Tip 3: Do you collect VHS or DVD movies? Neatly store your collection. When feasible, selecting a wooden unit is best for strength and a pleasant appearance as opposed to inexpensive, plastic units.
Tip 4: Time to store seasonal clothes? Purchase a large plastic lidded storage tub and place your seasonal clothes neatly inside. Alternative to folding, try rolling your clothes as this will reduce wrinkles and fold lines. In addition, it will save a lot of space. Place the storage tub in the floor of your closet and label the tub according to the clothing inside.

Tip 5: Use a flatware tray in your kitchen drawer. Keep every utensil separate. This will make it easy to find your utensil in seconds.

Tip 6: Discard old magazines and newspapers. For storage use a basket next to the sofa. However, this unit needs to be cleaned regularly in order to avoid any unsightly clutter.

Tip 7: Place important papers, including deeds, titles and tax papers in a fireproof protective box. This box should also feature a lock & key and can be placed anywhere in the house. Most individuals place this safe underneath their bed.

Tip 8: If you have any items that you no longer want, consider donating them to a local non-profit agency. This will save space and you may have a good feeling by giving to your community as well.

Tip 9: In order to avoid clutter, it may be necessary to throw away certain types of mail. This may include credit card offers. Remember - throw them out without first shredding the letters ;-) . Identity theft is a huge problem and using a paper shredder on any bills or credit card offers prevents anyone from ever gaining access to your private financial information... so be sure to avoid this so you can have a chance to be on T.V. as the next dummy to be ripped off!

Tip 10: Make sure that your kitchen is neatly organized with all appliances close to an electrical outlet to avoid power cords running across the countertop. You will find that the microwave, toaster and coffee maker all in one location will also be very convenient.

Personal Home Organizers

Do you often find yourself late for appointments? Do you feel unorganized? Have a hard time finding phone numbers, addresses or other important information when you need it? If so, then you need a personal organizer. A personal organizer system is an ideal way to help you stay organized and keep all of your information in one place. However, personal organizers -- both paper-based and electronic -- can be very expensive, and they usually contain categories or sections that you don't need.

Fortunately, it's not really necessary to spend a lot of money on a fancy organizer, PDA or smart phone. You can do it yourself and save a lot of money. Here's how you can create your own custom personal organizer that is inexpensive and perfectly meets your needs.

1. Materials you will need:
a. Small loose-leaf binder. You can find these at just about any stationary store, drugstore, discount, or grocery store. Make sure the binder has pockets in the front or back so you can put in a small calculator and your business cards.
b. Loose leaf lined paper. The paper needs to be the same size as the loose leaf binder.
c. Divider tabs.
d. Appointment calendar. These are small booklet-form calendars you can buy, or you may be able to get one for free from your bank or other merchants that offer these to their customers at the beginning of the year.
e. Small Calculator. Very inexpensive these days sometimes as cheap as one dollar.

2. Create your categories:
a. Next, you will create the categories that you are going to put in your organizer. Common categories used by many people include addresses, telephone numbers, appointments, expenses, projects, to do list, notes, and so forth. You may create any category that suits your needs. Don't be afraid to be original, because this is going to be custom -made just for you.
b. Write the category names in the divider tabs. Place the tabs in the binder, and include several pieces of blank lined paper behind each divider section.
c. Put the calendar in the appointments section. Remove the outer cover first, and then punch holes along the inside crease of the calendar. Make sure the holes you punch are spaced the same as the binder rings.
d. Finally, put the calculator and your business cards in the inside pocket. The calculator will come in handy anytime you need to make calculations at work or when shopping, and your business cards will be readily accessible when you need to give them out.

3. Use it! Start using your new organizer right away. Any system, no matter how good it is, will be of no practical use if it is not used regularly. Get in the habit of writing down all of your business and personal appointments and important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc. Also, write down the addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and other contact information for your family, friends and business contacts. Track your expenses, and write your to-do lists. Everything is effectively organized right there in one place to increase your efficiency and productivity.

That's basically it. You have created your own custom personal organizer for a fraction of the cost of the name brand organizer or a PDA. While it may not be as fancy-schmancy as one of the expensive organizer s, it will work just as well. In fact it will probably work better since you created this system just for you. Now, all you have to do is use it faithfully every day. You will be surprised at how well you will stay organized and keep all of your information in one place.
